It's an opportunity and perspective that comes with retirement. He's seen them before but never really watched them, examined them, tracked them, not like he's doing these days. Kris Nord watches them from his window on the western side of Missoula's Rattlesnake neighborhood. It's not the carefree time of summer, more a season of just getting through, the next station in life. It's where they congregate in the winter, where the food is more plentiful and accessible, where they huddle together to get through the harshest of Montana's seasons. The elk have made their way to Mount Jumbo.
